The Salty Seas, and what's under Lake Alele
There are two bodies of water in the nighttime universe and they could not be less alike. The Salty Seas are loud, sunlit and full of rodent pirates; Otter Bob and Chum Finley run the Great Sea Race there every year, and Bubblebeard's crew is never far off.
Lake Alele is the opposite — still, green, freshwater, and home to Porridge, a narwhal who leads people down to an underwater ukulele festival that has been going on for longer than anybody can remember. Water is the setting these stories use for nerve: a race Nathan is sure he is too slow for, a dive into somewhere he cannot see the bottom of, a tooth that has gone down a drain and, apparently, out to sea.
It is the least frightening deep water in children's audio.
