Life aboard the Wooden Parrot
The Salty Seas are crewed almost entirely by rodents. The Wooden Parrot is captained by Bubblebeard, a pirate whose beard is made of bubbles and whose approach to problems is enthusiasm first and planning somewhere around fourth. Jarret the Ferret is the crewmate who actually reads the map.
These are pirate stories with no villains in them: nobody walks a plank, nothing is plundered, and the treasure is usually something like a lost baby tooth or the confidence to try a bike trick again. That is deliberate. Pirates are one of the first things a four- or five-year-old falls in love with, and most pirate stories hand them cannons along with it.
These hand them a crew that argues, apologises, and sails on — which is the part that is actually useful the next morning.
