Why the monsters here are never the problem

Monster Valley runs on one rule: everyone is invited. The Grumpus is its most famous resident and its worst dancer, and Geoffrey Bumblebatz is the bat who keeps trying to get him to the Annual All-Monster Dance anyway. Nathan first arrives there after a spooky cartoon leaves him worried about what might be under the bed, and the joke of the episode — the joke of the whole world, really — is that the monsters are having a much harder time with their feelings than he is having with them.

Nothing jumps out. Nothing chases anyone. The scariest thing in Monster Valley is the possibility of hurting a friend's feelings and not knowing how to fix it. If you have a child who is drawn to monsters and then can't sleep, this is the shape of monster story that usually works.
